Individual, Leadership and Organizational Coaching and Development

Emotional Intelligence - What is it?
  • Leadership Is an Investment. So Is Your Growth.

The most effective leaders don't wait for a promotion, a crisis, or a performance review to grow. They make a deliberate investment in becoming more self-aware, more courageous, and more intentional in how they lead.

At LaVonne Dorsey & Associates (LD&A), we believe leadership development is not about fixing people—it's about unlocking their capacity to lead with greater clarity, confidence, emotional intelligence, and impact.

Whether you're wondering if you need executive coaching, leadership development, mentoring, or therapy, understanding the purpose of each can help you choose the right support for where you are today. Each serves a distinct role in personal and professional growth, and together they can be powerful catalysts for lasting transformation.

Set aside one hour to invest in yourself.

We've selected three outstanding resources that explore the differences between executive coaching, therapy, mentoring, and leadership development—and why choosing the right developmental partnership matters.

Emotional Intelligence - What is it?

    Listen
  • REFLECT

As you engage with these resources, consider:

    • What kind of leader am I becoming?
    • What assumptions or blind spots may be limiting my effectiveness?
    • Where am I reacting instead of leading intentionally?
    • What conversations have I been avoiding?
    • What support would accelerate my growth?

If nothing changes, where will my leadership be one year from now?

Leadership transformation begins with reflection—but it doesn't end there. Real growth requires intentional action, practice, accountability, and a willingness to challenge how you've always thought and led.

At LaVonne Dorsey & Associates, we partner with executives, leadership teams, and organizations to develop leaders who build healthy cultures, navigate complexity, strengthen relationships, and create meaningful, lasting impact.

Don't just read or watch these resources. Reflect. Discuss them with your team. Choose one insight—and put it into practice.

Because when leaders grow, teams thrive. When teams thrive, organizations flourish. And when organizations flourish, communities are transformed.

Ready to invest in your leadership or your team's development? We'd love to start the conversation.

  • Individual, Leadership and Organizational Coaching and Development

Success in reaching your corporate, career or organizational goals depends on your drive and commitment, and my approach, knowledge and experience. I refer to the blending of these three attributes as Pragmatic Compassion.

The pragmatism comes from years as a Fortune 500 strategist, consultant and coach/mentor. Whether “making my bones” at Microsoft, Eddie Bauer and Nordstrom, or more recently coaching leaders, managers and teams at Starbucks, Microsoft, Bank of America, Amazon… the list goes on… I’ve actively participated in diverse corporate cultures for the past twenty-five plus years while concurrently coaching many individual business owners and entrepreneurs to reach new career/business goals, or completely rebrand themselves to pivot in new directions.

The compassion comes from who I am, how I was raised and the other thing I do. Along with my coaching practice, I use my M.A. in Clinical Psychology from SayBrook University to counsel individuals and couples - which is a completely different approach and strategy from coaching.

Coaching relates to goal setting, outcome creation and personal change management. It supports personal and professional growth and development based on individual-initiated change in pursuit of specific actionable outcomes linked to personal or professional success. Therapy focuses on dysfunction, conflict and healing pain within an individual and relationships. The primary focus of therapy is often on resolving difficulties arising from the past. Coaching is forward moving and future focused.

Although the lines between the two are clear and defined, the combined knowledge and experience gives me a unique coaching perspective and approach.
